LEARN TO BE MORE RECILIENT
Resilience refers to how well you can cope with and bounce back from life’s challenges. We all face challenges, traumas and tragedy throughout our lives. It is part of life. There is good news, however. Resilience can be learned. Building resilience can help you manage stress and feelings of anxiety and uncertainty. Individuals with high resilience are able to adapt and thrive, even when confronted with abrupt changes. Resilience requires flexibility, therefore embrace change. When you learn how to adapt, you’ll be better equipped to handle life’s challenges. Having resilience can help you deal with repeatedly challenging events, handle pressure more effectively while also protecting your mental health.
You can build resilience for the future by becoming more confident in your ability to respond to and manage a crisis. Self-esteem is an important resilience factor and studies have shown that coping with stress and recovering from difficult events are greatly influenced by your self-esteem. One way to boost your self-esteem is to take a moment to reflect on your achievements and strengths. Resilience is also about handling feelings that arise when you fail repeatedly or when a difficult challenge is faced. Identify negative comments in your head and replace them with positive ones, such as “I can do this” or “I believe in myself and what I can do.”
