It is mid-winter in South Africa which means it is flu season.  Coughing at different levels of intensity and depth audible in shopping centers…sadly also in our home.  Erin our daughter suddenly started with a fever and a cough, enough evidence for me to make a booking to consult with our family doctor.

He entered the consultation room and Erin’s first response was, “Wow, you have a very special pen!”  (An exactly replica of the pen in the picture).  My excitement soared; very pleased that she has an appreciation for quality pens.  Thoughts continued to move through the landscape of my hand-loving-mind.  A pen is used for writing; a pen fits so snugly between the thumb, index and middle finger…

The doctor turned his prescription pad around to face Erin, gave her his pen, and instructed her to write her name on the pad.  A huge smile lined her beautiful face.  The pen was put softly on the dotted line and she wrote, remarking how easy the ink left the pen.  Joy visible on her face…

Does handwriting, with any pen or pencil, still gives such joy for you?
