ENGAGE WITH YOUR LEARNING PROCESS
One of the best strategies to actively engage with your learning process is taking notes in class. Many learners commonly belief that they don’t need to take notes as everything is in the text book. This may be true to some extent but research indicates that you can improve your learning by taking notes. When you take notes, you actively participate in the learning situation and help your brain to better process the information that the teacher explains. It may seem like an unnecessary action to take notes, but in fact it helps you to pay better attention in class and to consolidate and retain more information. Another benefit of taking notes is that it helps you to organize the contents in your own words. However, it is impossible to write down everything the teacher says word for word you therefore only write down key points. This will provide a summary of what was said in class. You can also make a note of questions that other learners ask in the class with your teacher’s answer to them. All this helps you to make the concepts your own. By taking notes you not only help your brain to give meaning to the most important parts of the lesson, but it will also help to deepen your understanding of the topic at hand.
