BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU SAY TO YOURSELF

Humans talk to themselves constantly. This self-talk is an ongoing monologue that is going on in the human world of thought and can be seen it as a kind of commentary on what the person is doing or trying to do, who he is and what kind of world he lives in. This monologue, which is constantly on the human mind, creates images of thought. These images created through self-discussion in the human mind become the blueprint of that person’s life. In other words, what the person says to himself influences what he becomes. Personal development experts agree that: “You are what you tell yourself you are.”

Self-talk can be constructive and encouraging or negative and self-defeating. It is positive and helpful when our self-talk is cheery and supportive. However, often we talk to ourselves in a negative and destructive way. These negative words undermine us. Words generate thoughts, followed by emotions that can be destructive to functioning optimally. Consequently, do not call yourself an “idiot” for making a mistake or that you “aren’t good at Maths.” When we use words like these, we generate undermining thoughts and emotions associated with them. It will take some time to change this bad habit but you can change the narrative of the story that you are telling yourself.
