Pretend that you are the teacher.
When you study, try to learn the material well enough to feel comfortable explaining it to someone else later. It can be worthwhile to put effort into pretending that you have to teach the material to someone because teaching someone else is a very effective way to see if you actually know the concepts. Saying the material aloud will help you understand the material better and help you retain the full information. You can talk to your pet or a soft toy or pretend you stand in front of a make-believe class.
As you pretend to be the teacher, try to explain the material in your own words. Furthermore, while explaining the material, use examples and try to make connections between concepts. Visualize specific questions asked to you about the material just as in a real class setting. While this is a very effective technique that you can do on your own, it can be even more powerful to teach the material to other people in reality, for example, in your study group or with a study partner.
