Helping Hand Amplified

At the start of each new term, before you get heavily involved in your studies or other activities, prepare a plan that covers what you want to achieve. Without a plan, distractions and commitments will quickly take over. It is never a good idea to take up more than you can handle. The problem with too many commitments is that soon you are so busy that you don’t have time for the things that really matter. Your plan or strategy should therefore also have a “no” component.

If you have clarity on what you want to do it is easier to say no to activities that are less important. A plan reminds you what it is you want to achieve and how you’re going to achieve it. The beginning of a new term is an excellent time to plan and review previous commitments and think about new ones you want to include. Remind yourself that it’s impossible to do everything in life; you need to plan and prioritize the things you really want to accomplish.

“Always have a plan, and believe in it. Nothing happens by accident.”

Chuck Knox, former NFL head coach
